The ArtGlass carbon footprint calculator is your ally in understanding and tracking the environmental impact of your artistic activities. It helps you to identify opportunities to reduce emissions and resource consumption, enabling you to contribute to environmental protection and lower your costs. Using indicators from glass studios, small glass workshops, and creative entrepreneurs, the calculator provides estimates and an overview of your carbon footprint so you can manage it more effectively and, if needed, integrate it into a product’s digital passport to document its sustainability.

How the ArtGlass calculator works

The calculator is intended to be an engaging and useful tool to help you better understand your impact on the environment, not an obligation or a burden. Most of the data needed to complete the calculator can be found on your studio’s monthly bills. It is enough to fill it out once a month or after completing a series of works, such as a collection. In this way, carbon footprint tracking becomes a simple part of your creative process and daily practice.

The “kg CO₂e” used in the calculator is a unified measure representing the total amount of various greenhouse gases, expressed as if they were all carbon dioxide. Because different gases have stronger or weaker effects, their impacts are converted into a “CO₂ equivalent” so all emissions can be added up and easily compared.

If you fill out the calculator monthly, you will receive results showing the emissions per kilogram of glass produced that month. If you choose to use the calculator after finishing a collection, you will obtain more precise emission data for each individual piece, but you must pay close attention to the time period in which you worked. For that period, enter data on electricity consumption, fuels, water, materials, and the weight of the products in the collection for which you want to calculate the individual carbon footprint.
